California Labor Federation Endorses Regina Marston for Congress District 42

MURRIETA, CA – January 13, 2020 – In mid-December 2019, Regina Marston, Democratic candidate for California’s 42nd district of Congress received the endorsement from the California Labor Federation’s COPE (Committee on Political Education). This endorsement represents over two million union members throughout California and signifies a vote of confidence in her
ability to follow through on campaign promises and be receptive to their needs throughout her term.

Regina Marston has long been an advocate of every man and woman who works hard each and every day, providing food and shelter for families and loved ones. She realizes that, to quote Martin Luther King, Jr., “By raising the living standards of millions, labor miraculously created a market for industry and lifts the whole nation to undreamed of levels of production. Those who attack labor forget these simple truths, but history remembers them. The labor movement was the principal force that transformed misery and despair into hope and progress.

When in the thirties the wave of union organization crested over
the nation, it carried to secure shores not only itself but the whole
society.” Corporate America continually resists allowing its employees to
organize even though it is by their blood, sweat, and tears, corporations succeed and prosper. Unions were born to address that need and both fight for and protect every wage earner so that they might share in the prospect of achieving the American Dream as well as provide reasonable benefits and a decent retirement.

The campaign of Regina Marston for the 42nd District of California is honored by the California Labor Federation’s COPE (Committee on Political Education) endorsement and fully accepts the upcoming responsibility it owes to every member who has placed his or her faith in her. She looks forward to taking the union message to Washington, D.C.

Health Care (ACA)

Health care is one of the most personal yet vital concerns of every American. While the rich can afford to quickly and easily have the best health care regardless of cost, most citizens struggle, even fail to secure even the most basic of care, including life-saving procedures and needed medications. Watching a loved one suffer with little or no opportunity to get medical assistance, having to choose which medications one can afford to buy, leaves those least fortunate among us frustrated, bitter and desperate. Many are left with no options except emergency room visits, which inevitably raise the cost of health care insurance for the rest of us, creating a significant burden of the entire system.

That’s why the Affordable Care Act (ACA) must be protected, and expanded in the short-term, so that everyone can stay healthy, remain productive and continue to contribute to California’s workforce and well-being. California has always prided itself on its compassion and dedication to its citizens, all of whom blend together to make both the state and our district a family of people who look out for one another, in good times and bad.

As your representative, I am driven to be certain that each one of my constituents has the very best health care possible, to have access to reasonably priced group insurance based on both need and income. I am committed to saving Medicare from politicians who treat us like you don’t matter. It’s time for the voters of District 42 to change the quality of their lives and stand up for a new and vibrant leader, one who will be here for you in sickness AND in health. #CA42Matters

“The care of human life and happiness, and not their destruction, is the first and only object of good government.”
-Thomas Jefferson

Climate Change

“Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s needs, but not every man’s greed.”
-Mahatma Ghandi

It is concerning that some of us absolutely refuse to entertain the idea that we are systematically destroying the very planet on which we live. Despite overwhelming scientific evidence that our environment is suffering negatively from the indiscriminate and catastrophic results of politicians choosing to ignore the obvious, some of us are passionately working to bring about an enlightened consciousness that will lead to appropriate measures necessary to save our planet before the clock strikes midnight. We simply cannot continue to enable politicians to openly and proudly ignore the global signs that ominously portend dire consequences for us all.

I have spent 11 years protecting and promoting California energy policies because I believe that we must protect our livelihoods as well as our lives. Our GOP representative, Ken Calvert, played his fiddle while California suffered yet another series of ravaging fires that burned out of control. In fact, the Trump administration threatened to withhold Federal aid to our district and state as a spiteful action aimed at teaching us a lesson about the consequences of not supporting them. Is this the representation that you want? Is this the representation that you need? Is this the representation that you deserve? Give me your vote and I will give you my undivided loyalty and promise to NEVER take you for granted. You matter. We matter. #CA42Matters.

Gun Reform

Recently, a disgruntled person again exposed Californians to yet another violent attack with easy access to guns. Who among us can ever be safe shopping at a mall, taking in a movie, sending our children to school? The incidents of multiple gun deaths have skyrocketed in our country because of a shameful lack of leadership. While the majority of citizens favor reasonable approaches to reducing many of these needless tragedies, politicians ignore the will of America, choosing instead to kowtow to wealthy lobbyists under the control of the NRA.

I believe in the 2nd Amendment and have absolutely no agenda that includes taking anyone’s legally obtained guns away. What I do favor is a logical, common sense approach that makes us safer by keeping dangerous assault weapons out of the hands of the mentally ill, deranged or violently unhinged zealots who inevitable strike out at innocents in an effort to seek revenge, make themselves famous or advance a political agenda that is unacceptable to most Americans.

The best way to accomplish this goal is to establish background checks and waiting periods for gun purchases in an attempt to isolate those who would use them as a tool of destruction. Do not fall prey to the incendiary rhetoric or scare tactics of anyone who takes money from the NRA or anyone who makes a profit from your fear. Congress has passed such a bill, but is lies on Mitch McConnell’s desk, languishing with no chance of being brought to the floor of the Senate for debate or vote. And, he readily accepts large amounts of money from gun lobbyists, so his motivation is clear.

Can we really be so cavalier and desensitized to the continuous massacre of innocent Americans, many of them children, that we cannot find a compromise? I will not be one of those people, not while I have the chance to stop it. #CA42Matters.
